THE INTERNATIONAL HARALD ANDERSÉN CHAMBER CHOIR COMPETITION

THE NEXT COMPETITION
SEPTEMBER 11-12, 2009

The idea for an international Harald Andersén Chamber Choir Competition first came from Mr Risto Kausto, then Managing Director of the Pension Fennia Mutual Insurance Company, in 1998 and was matured with Rauno Myllylä, the conductor of a choir. They then contacted Matti Hyökki, a lecturer at the Sibelius Academy, and the result was a new international chamber choir competition to be held at three-year intervals and differing radically from other choral competitions in that it is also open to professional choirs and singers. The first competition was held in August 2003 and was won by the EMO Ensemble led by Pasi Hyökki. This Finnish ensemble and its conductor also took the special prizes. The Jury of the 2003 competition consisted of Tõnu Kaljuste (Chairman), Eric Ericson, Matti Hyökki, Erkki Pohjola and Astrid Riska.
