POSTER PRESENTATIONS

PAPER AND POSTER PRESENTERS AND PANEL SPEAKERS

POSTER PRESENTATION GUIDELINES

A poster is simply a static, visual medium that you use to present your research work. The difference between poster and oral presentations is that you should let your poster do most of the 'talking': in other words, the material presented should convey the essence of your message.

APPEARANCE

Posters should meet the following criteria:

1) SIZE
They should be either A3 or A4 size (or 2 x A4). There are two basic formats for putting together your poster: print it as a single large sheet or mount the information on two sheets, which can then be tacked to the display board/wall.

2) LETTERING
The poster should be easily readable at a distance of two metres. Do not use all UPPER CASE type: it may make the material difficult to read. The text size should be no smaller than 14 points. This includes the text in the illustrations and on the graphs and charts.

3) CONTENT
The message that your poster contains should be clear and understandable without the requirement of oral explanation. Limit the amount of text to convey only the essentials. If you wish, save more detailed information for an accompanying handout. There is scope for flexibility in the way in which you present the main information.

  • Title: the title of the presentation should be clearly visible (use large letters, in caps).
  • Name and affiliation of the author(s)
  • Theory or methodology section in which you explain the basis of the technique that you are using or the procedure that you have adopted in your study. You should also state and justify any assumptions, so that your results may be viewed in the proper context.
  • Results and conclusions section in which you show illustrative examples of the main results of the work and the key findings of your investigation.
  • Your contact information: if your poster will be accessible later on the web you should give the web-site address.
  • You may use colours and pictures to enhance the attractiveness and readability of your poster.

4) HANDOUTS
It is helpful to have copies of the written version of your paper available for viewers who may wish to look at aspects of your work in more detail. Presenters are requested to bring 25 copies of a handout that contains the project title, the abstract, and the names and contact information of the researcher(s) to distribute to anyone who might be interested.

LOCATION

The posters will be displayed in the Sibelius Academy Hall during the congress. They will be grouped according to the theme. Special poster display boards will be available.

GENERAL INFORMATION

If you intend your poster to be a format other than paper (e.g., electronic), please contact the congress coordinator. In that case, the NMK2004 congress will organise the poster-presentation session. The presenter should provide the technical equipment needed for the display .

The posters should be sent to the congress coordinator before August 1, 2004 so that the organisers will have time to group them and to plan the presentation hall. If you cannot send your poster by mail, you may bring it to the congress venue.

If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact the congress coordinator at nmk2004@siba.fi.
